Beta testers for your Android, iOS or web app

TestFi gives you beta testers who install your build on their own phones, use it the way you ask, and record their screen while they talk you through it. A recorded tester costs $5.99 and a written report $3.99, with no subscription and no SDK. Most campaigns get their first sessions within a few hours.

What each beta tester sends back

  • the screen recording with the tester’s voice, or written answers to your questions
  • a transcript, translated to English when the tester spoke another language
  • an AI quality score and the problems found, ranked by severity with timestamps
  • the choice to reject a session that skipped your steps, which opens the seat for another tester

Across 664 completed TestFi sessions, recorded sessions averaged 78 out of 100 on our AI quality score against 50 for written reports, so record when you are testing a flow for the first time.

Where can I find beta testers for my Android app?

Start with people who already follow what you build: an email list, a Discord server, friends who fit your audience. They are free and they care, though they rarely tell you what is wrong.

Google Play has three testing tracks in Play Console. Internal testing takes up to 100 testers and needs no review. Closed and open tracks reach further, and testers join through an opt-in link.

A personal developer account created after 13 November 2023 has to run a closed test with at least 12 testers for 14 days in a row before it can publish to production. TestFi's closed test seats 16 testers for $39.99, so 12 are still in on day 14.

Outside Play, Firebase App Distribution sends your APK or AAB to testers by email; they install the Firebase App Tester app first.

Reddit testing communities and beta directories such as BetaList and BetaFamily are free to post in, but reply rates swing a lot.

If you want people on the build today, TestFi testers install it on their own Android phones and record what they do: $5.99 per recorded tester or $3.99 per written report.

How do I find beta testers for my iOS app on TestFlight?

TestFlight has two kinds of testers. Internal testers are members of your App Store Connect team, up to 100. External testers can be anyone, up to 10,000, invited by email or through a public link. The first build you send to external testers goes through Apple’s beta app review, and every build stays available for 90 days.

The public link is how you reach people outside your team: share it with your audience, in communities, or paste it into a TestFi campaign. TestFi testers install the build from the link on their own iPhones and record their screen while they talk through it.

What is the Android equivalent of TestFlight?

There is no single one. Google Play’s testing tracks in Play Console do the distribution part, with internal, closed and open tracks. Firebase App Distribution is closest to how TestFlight feels for the developer, with email invites and a tester app. Neither one finds the testers for you.

Common questions

Are TestFi beta testers paid?

Yes. Testers are paid for their sessions out of what you pay, which is why they follow your steps and talk you through what they see. A session that skips your steps can be rejected, and the seat opens for another tester.

Do I need to add an SDK or change my build?

No. You share a Google Play link, a Play testing link, an APK, a TestFlight public link or a web URL, and testers use your real app on their own devices.

Can I choose which devices or countries testers use?

Yes. A campaign can be limited by country, device and review history. Most TestFi testers are in Nigeria, Kenya and India, with smaller groups elsewhere, including the US. If you need dozens of testers in one Western market, ask before you pay.

How many beta testers do I need?

For usability, Nielsen Norman Group’s research found that about five people per type of user find most of the problems, so several small rounds teach you more than one big one. For crash and device coverage you want more devices. For Google Play’s rule you need 12 testers opted in for 14 days.

What is the difference between beta testing and usability testing?

Beta testing puts a pre-release build in real hands to find what breaks before launch. Usability testing checks whether people can work the app out at all. A recorded TestFi session does both: the tester follows your steps on their own phone, and you hear where they get confused and see where it breaks.

How fast do beta testers start?

Most campaigns get their first sessions within a few hours of going live, and each session lands on your dashboard with its recording or report and the AI score.
